Programs

North Bay Ski Racing Club is a non profit ski club with approximately 50 ski racers We are family-oriented and rely on a strong network of volunteers to ensure a well-coordinated and successful club. Ski racing programs are available for children starting at age 5 and continue through for adults. Our programs are designed to give racers the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in elementary race techniques.

The Nancy Greene Program is the grass roots program of Alpine Canada. Founded by Olympic alpine ski champion Nancy Greene, this program plays a FUNdamental part in the development of many of our country’s top ski racers. The Nancy Greene Program teaches the technical skills of skiing in a team environment for children 5 to 10 years of age.  During this time they will be introduced to basic skiing techniques and skills, develop agility, balance, coordination, strength /speed that are based on the Snow stars program, developed by Alpine Canada.

The Husky Snow Stars program is a skill development tool for young skiers designed to guide the child, coach and parent through a progression aligned with the Long Term Skier Development Plan

Within the club, the children have the opportunity to compete 3 times in set courses with timing equipment and fans cheering them on! By the end of the year, the athletes are invited to compete in the Nancy Greene Regional finals against other Nancy Greene clubs. These events encourage new friendships in a fun and friendly environment while developing the fundamentals of ski racing skills.  From the moment the ski hill opens, the athletes ski every Saturday and Sunday from  9:30-3:00 under the supervision of qualified coaches who focus on building skills and having FUN!

Our older athletes take it up a notch within the J/K Divisions. These divisions are aimed for athletes from 11-18 years of age. The club is delighted to have Cameron Culbert (Former National Ski Team and Ski Cross Member, National Jr. Champion and National Juvenile Champion) return for a second year to coach our older athletes.  The focus for these athletes is on skills, drills, fitness, gate training and free skiing to develop a well rounded athlete. Racers have approximately 65 days of training, locally and off site, such as Mont Tremblant, Searchmount & Blue Mountain, etc.  The increased levels of training encourage the physical and psychological progression, personal achievement, camaraderie and fun. They compete in provincial championships and have opportunities to qualify for national championships.  Most of these skiers dream of making the National Ski Team.
